The political impasse ravaging the Rivers State has resulted to youths from the Ijaw ethnic group to block a section of the East-West Road in Rivers State, disrupting traffic in protest against the purported move by the Lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
As a critical high way connecting motorist to major cities in the Niger Delta, the blockade will significantly impact commercial activities. The blocked section of the East-West Road needs to be cleared to restore access to road users.
The governor’s strained relationship with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike has been a significant factor in the crisis. This tension has also affected Governor Fubara’s relationship and the Lawmakers loyal to Wike.
Recall that the Ijaw Youth Council has protested on the Easter-West Road, demanding it’s swift completion due to its economic importance to the Niger Delta region.
