Natasha/Akpabio Sex Allegation: A Call to Action for Women

By Cyprian Ajah

The contentious issue of affirmative action has long plagued the global political landscape, with women striving to fill the 35% gap stipulated in the Beijing China Convention, while men often attempt to undermine their allocated seats. The neglect of women’s rights and interests has prompted them to unite, demanding greater inclusion and specific quotas.

In 1995, women gathered in Beijing, China, to advocate for change. Although some countries have made progress, meeting the 35% quota, others lag behind. Even nations that have given women a voice still struggle to address the complexities of women’s issues.

The recent sexual harassment allegation made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio has brought this issue to the forefront. This allegation demands attention and cannot be dismissed. Women must rally around Natasha, demanding a thorough investigation and justice.

However, the silence from women’s voices has been deafening. It is time for women to unite, to stand in solidarity with Natasha, and to demand action. The recent questioning of Senator Natasha Akpoti’s extended suspension by former federal lawmaker and Senior Advocate of Nigeria West Idahosa highlights the need for urgent attention.

To achieve the 35% affirmative action, women must come together, supporting one another and demanding justice. The time for change is now. Women must rise up, united and strong, to reclaim their rights and their voices.
