The candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Olumide Akpata have raised alarm over what they considered as irregularities in the ongoing Edo Governorship election.
For the PDP candidate, he accused his opponents of suppressing his supporters in his stronghold and that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are turning up late.
Reports reaching us has it that INEC officials arrived at Ighodalo’s Polling Unit At 10:30 am.
Though, an INEC official explained to him why they arrived late assuring him that “everybody must vote even beyond the official 2:30pm.”
Ighodalo, after listening to the INEC officials walked round the polling unit at Idrion Vocational Centre, a voting centre at Idinro, Okaegben, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area to vote at Ward 1 unit 3.
Also the flag bearer of Labour Party, Olunide Akpata complained bitterly that his team are getting some concerning feedback from across the state
Akpata said the Labour Party will continue to observe the process before making any official statement.
He told members of the press after casting his vote on Saturday that he will make official statement after verifying the matter.
“We are getting some concerning feedback from across the state but I’m not the kind of person that will make any statement until I verify. We will be observing the process.”
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission has arrested three suspected vote buyers in Edo.
Three of the suspects are currently in the custody of the EFCC where they will answer questions concerning the alleged crime.
