The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) initiated the strike due to unmet demands, including payment of outstanding allowances, improved working conditions, and better remuneration. They are demanding for the 25-35% Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) arrears.
Among other demands include, the 2024 accoutrement allowance, reinstatement of five dismissed resident doctors, Improved working conditions and
specialist allowances for resident doctors.
The strike is expected to significantly impact Nigeria’s healthcare system, with resident doctors forming the backbone of clinical care in public hospitals. NARD President Dr. Muhammad Suleiman appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and resolve the issues.
