The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has pledged to investigate allegations of local government fund diversion in Kogi State, following a petition by the Igala Youth Council. The council claims there’s been systematic misappropriation of funds meant for development across the state’s 21 local government areas.
The petition alleges significant unaccounted federal allocations to local governments in Kogi State during 2024 and 2025, citing Dekina, Yagba East, and Adavi LGAs as examples.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale assured the commission will act decisively, conducting a diligent investigation. This isn’t the first time EFCC has taken steps to address local government fund mismanagement, as Chairman Ola Olukoyede previously promised to monitor and track expenditures.
The Igala Youth Council is demanding an independent audit, investigation, and prosecution of those involved, and transparency in fund utilization.
