Thirty-eight worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State, Nigeria, have regained their freedom after several days in captivity. The release follows coordinated efforts by security forces and government representatives, with President Bola Tinubu’s direct intervention playing a key role.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised the President’s hands-on approach, saying the release is a testament to his commitment to the safety and well-being of Nigerians. Tinubu had postponed his trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to address the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States.
The governor also thanked security agencies, religious institutions, and residents for their support. The abductees’ return brings relief to the community, which had been shaken by the traumatic incident.
The abduction occurred on November 18, when armed men stormed the church, killing several worshippers, including the pastor. The incident sparked national attention, with some advocacy groups and US politicians alleging systematic persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
