The 2024 West African Football Union, WAFU, Under 20 tournament which was held in Togo has ended in favour of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles who defeat Ghana 2:1 to retain the title.

Though, Ghana displayed some level of brilliance in the competition but they did not match the tactical prowess of the Flying Eagles. The second half of the game saw Ghana coming closer when they scored a fantastic goal but every effort the Koffo boys put to equalise the game proved abortive as the Nigerian Flying Eagles dominated the game with high level of skills.
The battle ground was at the Stade de Kegue stadium Lome, Togo.
Nigeria’s Victory saw the Flying Eagles, successfully defending and retaining the trophy on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian side dominated the match, thanks to Kparobo Arierhi who scored two exceptional goals from to enable the Flying Eagles clinch the tittle.
The first goal came in the 35th minute, with Arierhi expertly finishing off a flowing move.
Ghana scored one goal in the second half trying to push the Eagles back but the Eagles keep flying further with tactical experience especially in the midfield and defence that resulted in warding off Ghana attacking machine.
To get to the final, Nigeria had earlier defeated Niger Republic 3:1 before getting to the final to lift the trophy.
The victory got the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau excited. Gusau praised the team’s fighting spirit and improvement throughout the tournament.
“I commend the fighting spirit of the Flying Eagles in reaching the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship and in the process, winning a slot at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations,” Gusau said.
